OP28- Climate Change is Real

COP28 is the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference. It is also known as the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference took place from November 30 to December 12, 2023 at Expo City, Dubai. This take place every year, and is the world’s only multilateral decision-making forum on climate change with almost complete membership of every country in the world.

To put it simply, the COP is where the world comes together to agree on ways to address the climate crisis, such as limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, helping vulnerable communities adapt to the effects of climate change, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Areas of Focus at COP28 was fast tracking the energy transition and slashing emissions before 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5° C (2.7° F) above pre-industrial levels. Equitable phase-out of fossil fuels to achieve net zero by 2050 or sooner and put nature, people, lives, and livelihoods at the heart of climate action, including helping the most vulnerable communities adapt to the change that is already occurring and building climate resilient societies.

Scientific evidence continues to show that human activities have warmed Earth’s surface and its ocean basins, which in turn have continued to impact Earth’s climate. Climate change is real and we all can do our bit in protecting our environment. One way to do is to calculate our carbon footprint (https://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx) and try reducing it.
