Argoland – The lost continent

Have you heard of Argoland? In a new development, researchers at Utrecht University in the Netherlands have discovered fragments of a continent called Argoland in Southeast Asia. Reports state that these fragments were originally part of Australia, but have since then shifted towards the eastern side of Indonesia. Argoland was once a part of a landmass that existed 155 million years ago that broke off from northwestern Australia. Seven years of research helped scientists trace the landmass back to Southeast Asia.

This elusive, 3,106-mile stretch was once an integral part of the supercontinent Gondwana.
But unlike India, which broke off the ancient supercontinent Gondwana 120 million years ago and still forms an intact landmass today, Argoland splintered into fragments. It disintegrated as tectonic forces stretched the landmass out and drove it away from the rest of the continent before scattering it across Southeast Asia.

This groundbreaking study offers a fresh perspective on the history and geographical aspects of our planet and how planets have been shaped over millions of years.
